Loungewear is becoming increasingly popular, especially for teen and preteen girls. You can buygirls’ loungewear at nearly every clothing store that caters towards those sizes, and some girls are even wearing it to school!
The only problem with these garments is that they can be hard to style–after all, they’re purposely designed to look laid-back.
Today, we’ll show you how your daughter can make loungewear look good. With these tips in mind, she can wear her favorite comfortable clothes without worrying about looking sloppy!
What Is Loungewear?
Loungewear is comfortable clothing that can be worn both inside and outside. It’s perfect for chilling out at home, but can also be worn while out and about. Some people call it the ‘athleisure’ look.
There are differenttypes of loungewear, including:
- Camisoles
- Tracksuits
- Sweatpants
- Hoodies
It’s easy to confuse loungewear with sleepwear, but there’s a difference between the two. Sleepwear and loungewear can both be worn to bed, but sleepwear can’t be worn outside. That’s what makes loungewear so popular–its ability to transition from bed to the bus stop without the need to change outfits!
How to Style Loungewear
There are a few different ways to style loungewear so your daughter can look and feel her best while wearing it. Here are some of our favorite tips:
Stick to One Color
Loungewear looks best when it’s monochrome. When your daughter mismatches colors, the outfit looks uncoordinated. On the other hand, sticking to one color makes the outfit look intentional.
You can find loungewear in a variety of colors, but the most popular ones are neutral or muted colors–like mauve, black, gray, and beige. While garments may come in other colors, bright loungewear may look a bit too loud for your daughter’s tastes.
Add a Coat
Your daughter can throw a large, brightly-colored coat over neutral loungewear to make the look more chic. This works especially well in the winter, where coats and warm clothes are expected. She can pair this outfit with a hat to take it a step further.
Don’t Forget Fun Accessories
Oversized sunglasses, fun purses, and statement jewelry can make loungewear look better. Your daughter’s accessorizing might be as simple as adding a pair of hoop earrings to her outfit, or she can even add a pair of combat boots to add some edge to her look!
Try Cropped Hoodies and Sweatshirts
Who says hoodies and sweatshirts have to extend to the waist? Try pairing cropped outerwear with a camisole underneath to create a not-so-basic loungewear look.
If you can’t find pre-cropped clothing, you and your daughter can cut up some old sweatshirts to complete this look. Consider it a mother-daughter bonding project!
Wear Simple, Natural Makeup
Loungewear doesn’t call for a face caked in makeup, so your daughter shouldn’t worry about looking dolled up for school. Instead, she should keep her makeup light, simple, and natural when she’s wearing loungewear.
While it’s perfectly acceptable to not wear makeup at all (especially if she’s not leaving the house), a touch of blush, eyeliner, and lip gloss can make her look more awake.
Wear Individual Pieces
Some loungewear comes in sets, and they work great as an outfit. On the other hand, these pieces might be easier to style on their own. Your daughter may want to wear joggers with a top that isn’t considered loungewear, a sweater with jeans, or a hoodie with textured leggings. She doesn’t have to commit to the whole look–she can go halfway between chic and chill!
